Skate Story launches December 8 on PS5

16 Oct 2025

Skate Story, Sam Eng's highly anticipated indie game, will drop on PS5 on December 8. As a demon in glass form, the player will skate through the underworld, fulfilling an evil contract to devour the Moon. With its unique combination of unearthly storytelling, fresh gameplay mechanics, and wholly original music, Skate Story is poised to shake up the category of skating games.

Skate Story is no ordinary skateboarding game—it's a journey through a creepy, vibrant underworld where every grind and trick propels the player closer to the game's final goal: eating the Moon. You'll trick, combo, and even deck-out, but at the same time skirt the dangers of this twisted, dreamworld. The game's surreal narrative is supplemented by music from Blood Cultures, adding the grubby underworld a authentic New York City atmosphere.

Soundtrack that Brings the Game to Life

Perhaps the most exciting feature of Skate Story is its in-house 12-track soundtrack, designed by Blood Cultures. Not only do the tunes enhance the world, but they help create it. Blood Cultures captures the vibe of New York—its beat, anarchy, and raw energy—through industrial sounds and field recordings of the city. This pioneering application of sound design will make players members of the underground, and every kickflip and grind a piece of art.

Customize Your Deck, Customize Your Style

No skate game is complete without a bit of deck customization, and Skate Story has it in spades. Every trick you perform wears out your board in realistic ways. Grinding or popping nose slides, your deck will take the hit for your tricks. Along the way, you can also visit gift stores to trade your soul for new boards, wheels, and trucks, and personalize your setup with stickers. But beware—stickers are one-use only, so choose wisely. As you roll by, the stickers on your board will eventually wear off, adding an element of impermanence to your personalized creations.

A Sensory Experience with the PS5 DualSense Controller

One of the greatest things about Skate Story on the PS5 is how perfectly it utilizes the DualSense controller. The controller's light bar stages a dazzling display that complements the mood of the game, repeating the glass shape of the skater and the dark underworld you're gliding over. The haptic feedback and vibration get in even deeper, making every trick feel solid as you glide over the chasm.

STOMP Your Combo to Deal Damage

Tricks in Skate Story not only appear cool—additionally, they are used in combat. Perform tricky maneuvers and chain them together to build up a combo. The more creative and rapid the tricks, the higher the combo. Build it up sufficiently, and you can "STOMP" the combo and discharge all the accumulated damage in one big shot. This degree of strategy introduces a new dynamic to the game, since trick execution has to be weighed against timing in an effort to optimize damage done to the underworld-wandering celestial animals.

Get Ready for Skate Story on PS5

With its innovative gameplay, revolutionary soundtrack, and addictive storyline, Skate Story is shaping up to be one of the best indie games of the year. Out now on PS5 from December 8, skateboarding enthusiasts, surrealists, and fans of innovative gameplay shouldn't miss it. And as Sam Eng, the game's single developer, promises: "Keep pushing, chain a beautiful skate line, and stomp the lunar projection. A tasty Moon awaits."

Don't forget to mark your calendars—Skate Story is soon to be here, and it's going to be something you'll always remember.
